Book: Show us one of your favorite cookbooks.
I love Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone because it's not just a book of recipes. Deborah Madison has a wonderful writing style - like she is sitting in your kitchen chatting with you about things she loves to eat. When she talks about a vegetable, she talks about what flavors go well with that food and makes it easy and fun to experiment. She was one of the early members of the San Francisco Zen Center and the original chef at Greens restaurant in San Francisco. (The photos on the web site don't do it justice.)
Ripe for Dessert is my favorite dessert cookbook. I learned to make my first galette from an article that David Lebovitz wrote for Fine Cooking magazine some years ago and he has become one of my favorite dessert chefs. (He was at Chez Panisse for many years.) I always get "Wows!" for anything I make from his recipes. As a side note, he now lives in Paris and does culinary tours. If you are going to Paris, check out his blog at www.davidlebovitz.com.
